Tom Watson-Lessons of a Lifetime![]() Tom Watson is the epitome of consistency on the golf course. Who else, approaching the age of sixty, could pull off such a miracle as Watson did at The Open Championship in 2009? An 8-time Major Champion, Watson has entered the winner’s circle more than Bobby Jones, Arnold Palmer, and Phil Mickelson. In the 2000 PGA Championship, Watson pulled off a T-9 at Valhalla. With 39 PGA titles to his credit, 13 more on the Champions Tour (including 5 majors), Watson still remains relevant. The Golf Glove had the opportunity to speak with Tom Watson, via conference call, about life, golf, and his new instructional DVD ‘Tom Watson- Lessons of a Lifetime’ which plays out like an anthology of instruction that Watson has soaked up over his lifetime. Freelancing For Philanthropy As a golf freelance journalist myself, writing an article about a fellow colleague just seems such a natural thing to do. That’s why I jumped at the opportunity to do this piece on Alan Hammond, whose work can be found on such sites as Golfersmd and Suite 101. But as busy as Alan is, he’s never too busy to help out his fellow man. It’s time to meet Mr. Hammond. Let's Meet The Captains![]() Greg Norman and Fred Couples, both major champions, will be captaining their respective teams at this year's President's Cup. Friends off the course, the matchup will be one of respect and strategy. Couples' captains picks were pretty much by the book but Norman's selection of Adam Scott, mired in a horrible slump, raised many eyebrows. Win or lose, both men will exude their personalities into the competition which should make for some great times. PGA Profile![]() Yong-eun (YE) Yang Born: Jejo-do, South Korea Birthday: January 15, 1972 Height: 5ft. 9 inc. Weight: 190 lbs. Earlier this year he also won the Honda Classic, becoming only the second South Korean player (KJ Choi) to win a PGA tour event. Yang is also known for defeating Woods at the 2006 HSBC Champions event in China on the European Tour. Yang started playing golf at the age of 19, quite a bit later than most pros. A friend of Yang’s suggested he hit some balls while he was working part-time at a golf club. Yang taught himself to play by imitating the movements of golfers at the club. After completing his mandatory service in the South Korea military, he moved to New Zealand to begin his pro golf career at the age of 24. Yang has also played on the Japan Tour and the Korean Tour amassing 9 professional wins in total. With his two victories over Woods, Yang has been nicknamed ‘Tiger Slayer’. His PGA Championship victory helped Yang climb from 110th to 34th in the latest world golf rankings. PGA Profile![]() Anthony Kim Born: Los Angeles, CA Birthday: June 19, 1985 Height: 5ft 10in. Anthony Kim's Facebook Fan Page LPGA Profiles![]() These Girls Rock! by Jason Ferris As the LPGA tour’s slogan suggests, female professional golfers can play. However, the heath of the LPGA remains a bit of a question. Although the growth of golf for professional female players has grown, it still lags quite a bit behind their male counterparts. For example, here are last weeks’ winners in golf and their purses. On the PGA tour, Davis Love III won and took home $900,000. Tom Jenkins prevailed on the Champions tour and is now $300,000 richer. Lorena Ochoa, the leading money winner on the LPGA tour, won her event and will cash a cheque for $150,000 in the near future. Now before we weep for the poor female golfers, let’s examine the bigger problem. |
